About Us –

Founded in 2006 and officially registered in 2008 under registration number KAS/CBO/5/4/2016/533, Slum Child Foundation (S.C.F) is a nonprofit organization focused on child welfare. It operates in Kenya’s urban slums, including Korogocho, Baba Dogo, Huruma, Mathare, and Ngei, to protect the rights of vulnerable and marginalized children in these impoverished communities.

The organization aims to foster positive change in communities affected by poverty, lack of education, violence, and drug abuse. It focuses on substance abuse prevention, children’s rights advocacy, and initiatives to prevent gender-based violence, as well as promoting the empowerment of women and girls. The foundation is also committed to creating programs that support self-reliance and social advancement.

Slum Child Foundation draws upon the personal experiences of its founder, who grew up in the Korogocho slums where the foundation now operates. With deep expertise in social work, S.C.F. works extensively in the areas of child protection and youth substance abuse prevention.

The Story of George Ochieng Odalo: A Role Model and the Birth of Slum Child Foundation

The journey of George Ochieng Odalo, the founder of Slum Child Foundation, is one rooted in resilience, compassion, and an unyielding commitment to improving the lives of children in marginalized communities.

Growing up in a slum, George experienced firsthand the struggles of poverty, limited access to education, and the lack of basic resources. Despite these challenges, he always harbored a dream: to break the cycle of poverty for himself and for others like him.

Thousands of children living in slums across the world face the same barriers to education, health, and opportunity. The core of the Slum Child Foundation is a belief that, through education, empowerment, and community-driven development, children in marginalized communities can break free from the poverty trap and achieve a brighter future. What began as a small initiative in his community quickly grew as more people joined the cause, drawn by George’s passion and leadership.

Over the years, George has been invited to attend numerous conferences at the United Nations offices in New York, USA, and Geneva, Switzerland. The Slum Child Foundation also has partnerships with organizations throughout Africa. Additionally, in 2025, George completed a religious studies program and was commissioned as a Captain in the Anglican Church and the Church Army.
